After getting hit by more than seven inches of rain, it turned hot today. This is a lethal combination for any crops, in particular the potatoes. We will have to dig as soon as we can get into the field and we are already seeing a lot of loss.
Again, nobody likes this better than the weeds and we are getting hit harder than ever, because we have not been able to control them with cultivation…

Finally, I’m finding a minute to actually announce the contents of the week’s box:

Broccoli
Strawberries
Cherry tomatoes
Tomato
Daikon
Romaine
Green leaf lettuce
Squash
Dino or Lacinato Kale

With the onset of hotter weather, the lettuces are going, squashes and field cucumbers are coming on rapidly. We have tiny beans on the vines, will they make it in time for next week’s box?

As always, the weeds are proving to be our biggest challenge.
Items you might have had questions about were fennel and kohlrabi, and I hope by now you know what to do with them…….

Big news this week is the rain and continued cooler temps, but that doesn’t slow the weeds down.

This weeks box contains:
Romaine lettuce
Baby Bok Choy (yummy in stir fry)
Collards
Strawberries
Scallions
Cucumbers
Dill (good on sandwiches and salads)

This cooler weather is good for the Beets and Swiss Chard, so look for them soon. Anytime you want to share a recipe, we can post it on the website. Happy eating!

At the farm, we have just put in tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, squash, cucumbers and melons. The first corn is peaking through, and the last peas have been planted. This time of year is particularly challenging, since planting and harvesting overlap, making for not enough hours in the day to get it all done.
